Wide Eyed and Getting Curious

Our little furballs started opening their eyes Friday - Bass and Louise were first - then Connie and Sawyer opened theirs Saturday. It is so cute to go over to their puppy bed and start talking, then have a couple of them lift their heads to see who is there. They are also getting more curious and adventurous now that they can see a bit. They are growing like crazy! We weighed them Friday night, and all were a couple to a few ounces over two pounds. Layla is such a good Mom. She watches over them constantly, and they are thriving on her attention. When we clean their bed, we lay them in Layla's, but as you can see below, they barely fit in it together, and trying to keep them there is beginning to be, as the expression goes, like herding cats! When they nap on their backs, their paws twitch and move like they are running.

Quiet Day

Yesterday was a quiet day after the furbabies had a weekend visitor. They had plenty of cuddling and loving. Their visitor helped weigh them, watched over them while we cleaned their bedding and took Layla out for her walks, and generally acted as the perfect caretaker.

We thought we'd have photos of puppies with eyes opened today, but they were still closed as of this writing. While we wait to be watched by four pairs of eyes, please enjoy these photos of our nursery, the furbabies this morning, and, of course, one with our visitor cuddling Connie.

One Week Old!

It's hard to believe these little furbabies are one week old already! They also all have families to go home to when they are eight weeks old! They are so much fun to watch as they vie for position with Mama Layla, or for the best sibling to snuggle up with for a nap.

We weighed them all last night, and have listed their birth weight and their one week old weight with their photos. First, a photo of all of them in Layla's bed. How cute are Bass' toes resting on her brother?!

Bass
birth: 12 oz - 1 week: 1 pound 2.8 oz

Connie
birth: 10 oz - 1 week: 1 pound 2.3 oz

Sawyer
birth: 12 oz - 1 week: 1 pound 5.3 oz

Louise
birth: 11 oz - 1 week: 1 pound 3.1 oz

Busy Weekend

Friday our Corgi babies went to the vet for their first check up. They also got their tails docked. Every corgi did great, but it was a bittersweet venture for us: they look like miniature corgis now, but we miss their tails twitching while they nurse and skootch around their bed. Then late Saturday and early Sunday their ears perked up. From the back, they look like little Yodas! Every day brings something different with them, and we love it.

Mama Layla is great - it's hard to believe this is her first litter. She is very attentive to them, but is not afraid to step out of their bed and lay down beside it for a few minutes. Even corgi moms need personal time. We stayed in the room with them until last night. Yes, we are that committed to these babies (or maybe we should just be committed?!) Their room doubles as our guest room, so it was easy for us to be helicopter parents for a few nights.

Aren't those ears and tails the cutest? We'll be back tomorrow with individual photos of each puppy.

Day 1 Photos

These babies are absolutely corgeous! Here are their photos from yesterday. Today they go to the vet for their first check and to get their tails docked. We gave them temporary names to make it easier to reference them. We (loosely) named them for states we have lived in. Enjoy today's cuteness!

 Welcome to our corgi blog!

We started this journey with corgis five years ago. The start was slow as we visited and corresponded with corgi breeders, and got some really good advice from them. And now, here we are, all grown up and expecting our first litter in early October.

Our corgis are both female: Maesie and Layla. Maesie is not being bred; we tried, but she just wants to be the awesome aunt who spoils her nieces & nephews. Layla went to Virginia and had a romantic getaway with Sporty, the main man up there at WayJen Lowriders https://wayjenlowriders.com/ and now she's ready to be a Mama.

So this afternoon we did a maternity photoshoot with Layla. All in all it was pretty good. She is a sweet girl most of the time, and she loves being the center of attention. However, even the best mother-to-be has her moments. Here is the corgeous result of the shoot:

And here are some of the out-takes...

Thank you for stopping by! More to come soon.
